Aims
The aim of PANTS is to raise awareness of "Gynae" Cancers. We will do this:
- using the pantsmaters.org.uk website.
- with the assistance of local media by speaking on speaking on Radio, TV, and through the Newspapers.
- by offering a Forum for those surviving cancer and their families, where information can be shared, encouragement offered, and hope given.
- by actively promoting International Gynae Awareness Day Sept 10th each year.
- by arranging concerts and other activities attempting to connect to all age ranges.
- by having an Educational Day each year when Guest Speakers in the gynaecological/oncology field can share developments in their specialist area and women who are experiencing cancer can share their experiences to offer hope for other women with gynaecological cancer, and enlighten Health Professionals to become more aware of the needs of these women and their families.
- by producing leaflets which advertise the website by urging womento have their smear tests but to be aware that these do not show all other cancers: vulval, endometrial, fallopian, ovarian cancers-all silent killers.
Mission
- PANTS was founded by Jeannette Preston in early 2008.
- I am a currently practicing Registered Nurse, a qualified lecturer in Health and Social Care and a Social Worker.
- I am a Methodist Local Preacher who recognises the right of all people to have their own beliefs and values.
- I founded Pants following my own surgery for endometrial carcinoma having come into contact with many women across the world who feel that gynae cancer awareness is under promoted, and my own research has supported this.
- I am bound by my Code of Practice as a Registered Nurse and will act as a Sign Poster for information from approved websites such as NHS Direct.
- I, or a deputy, will monitor the website to ensure that its content, including posts from those who give and seek support, is not discriminatory or offensive in anyway. Discussion of matters of a spiritual nature will be encouraged off line so that the website is accessible to everyone. There may be access to spiritual advice but if it is led by people of a particular denomination then it will have to be accessed by choice.
- I have access to a Consultant in gynae /oncology whom I can consult for guidance. Mr Tito Lopes FRCOG has been working in the North East for 20 years and has now brought his vast skills and experience to Cornwall at the Royal Cornwall Hospital which is now a key centre in the management and care of women with all types of Cancer, including complex cases. He is the Medical Advisor to PANTS.
- I aim to raise funds, through the website and in other ways to enable me to continue promoting cancer awareness. I am not primarily raising funds for other charities, but will try to fund raise for equipment at the RCHT which may help with diagnosis or improve the working conditions of the surgeon and team.
- Accounts will be kept and PANTS bank account is held with Lloyds TSB. Anyone with a reasonable need to examine the accounts will have access. They will be audited professionally.
- I am aiming for PANTS to be granted charitable status.
